I. From San Francisco to Los Angeles
San Francisco is a city, which you must see, if you are in California. This city has a lot of charm, romance, interesting architecture, Mediterranean ambience
and international flair.

Highlights are: Fisherman´s Wharf, Columbus Tower, the Coit Tower, the Transamerica Pyramid, the Golden Gate-Park, Mission Dolores, China Town,
Downtown, Cable Car, Lombard Street and of course, the Golden Gate Bridge.

The coast of San Francisco with it´sjagged rocks and cliffs is also very interesting.
It is famous for the Santa Cruz Municipal Pier and the Beach Boardwalk. It is a historical amusement park, founded in 1907.

Recommended: Take the 17 mile drive, along which you can see the nicest coastal strips this area.

The main object of interest is the Hearst Castle in San Simeon.
In 1865, George Hearst, a wealthy miner, purchased 40,000 acres of ranchland.
Later, in 1919, his son, William Randolph Hearst, inherited the land from his mother, Phoebe Apperson Hearst. By then the ranch had grown to encompass 250,000 acres. He planned and constructed his dream home. Hearst and his architect, Julia Morgan, had created an estate of 165 rooms and 126 acres of gardens,terraces, pools and walkways. This castle developed into a palace in every sense of the world.6. Santa Barbara
This area is one of the most famous cities in California and the whole coast. It is called „Pearl of the California Riviera“.7. Channel Island Nationalpark
Here are many of attractions and activities: Hiking, kayaking, boating and the chance to enjoy the charming landscape.
It is a rocky island with many cliffs, caves and grottos. In Anacapa there is a camping place, a lighthouse and a museum.
Santa Cruz has heavenly mountainous and valley country side. The area is covered with a heavy carpet of grass. In the spring the meadows are full of
flowers. All nature lovers will be impressed, because this island has roughly 670 different kinds of plants.
San Miguel is famous because of it´s large variety of animals. At Point Bennett you can watch see lions, walruses and seals.
Santa Ross is an island like Santa Cruz, but compared with Santa Cruz, this island has a steep coast with a height of 1,630 feet.
Santa Barbara is the smallest of these islands. It has an area of only 2,5 km² = 1 sq.ml.

II. From Los Angeles to San Diego
Los Angeles is an exciting and large city with many highlights like Beverly Hills, the Civic Center,
Watts Tower, Bradbury Building and Bunker Hill. It is not possible to describe Los Angeles in words, you
have to explore it by yourself!
Santa Monica is the centre of this area. The largest attraction for tourists is the Getty Museum.
It is one of the richest and at the same way, one of the most unusual museums of the „New World“.
8.1. Between the Airport and Malibu
A 40 mile long, almost continuous sand beach marks the widely curving Santa Monica Bay. A varied, pulsating and contemplative beach culture has developed
along this stretch of beach.The most interesting suburb behind the airport is Marina Del Ray, which allegedly offers the largest marina in the world. Not far
from there is Fisherman´s Village, a copy of a fishing village on the East Coast.Venice has developed into a booming and trendy Mecca of the youth culture,
where almost everything is allowed. On the Abbo Kinney Blvd. it´s especially exhuberant and turbulent, while Venice Beach is renowned for it´s fine, sandy
beach. The 3 km long Venice boardwalk and pedestrian promenade is a rendezvous for body builders, beach mermaids, inline skaters, old hippies, flea-market
s traders and beach musicians.
Santa Monica, situated on the coast of Greater Los Angeles, is the undisputed centre of the tourist trade. The beaches are sparkling white and consist of
The Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Pier are promenades for strolling and souvenir hunting.
Malibu is the nearest built-up area, where the richest of the richest, Hollywood stars and other famous people have moved to, in order to live amongst eachother. The greatest attraction for tourists is the Getty Museum, which was built by the oil magnat and art collector Getty, who recently died. It is, without
doubt, one of the richest and at the same time the most noteable museum in the New World.
8.2. Hollywood and Griffith Park
This area was formerly farming countryside. In 1907/1908 the MPI (motion-picture industry) was founded. Hollywood became famous. You can visit the Paramount Film Studio and the „Walk of Fame“.
Other highlights are the Hollywood Wax Museum, Hollywood Guinness Book of Records and the Universal City Walk.
8.3. . From the Airport to San Clemente, via Newport Beach
Some interesting places are: El Segeunda Dunes, Manhatten Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redono Beach. Also some beautiful areas are Palos Verdes and the
Point Vicente. In the period between December and April you can see whales.
9. Carlsbad, Encinitas, Del Mar and Orange Country
These cities are famous because of their beautiful beaches. Orange Country is also attractive because of it spectacular beaches and Disneyland in Anheim.
Your itinerary could include Palos Verde, Huntingon Beach, Newport Beach to San Clemente – via Dana Point and Capistrano Beach. After you pass Oceanside, you must drive along the Pacific Hwy, seeing many gardens decorated with colourful flowers.
On this route you will enjoy small towns like Carlsbad, Encinitas and Del Mar. Beautiful vegetation and sandy beaches will impress you.
San Diego is an exciting city. So you should plan to stay at least three days to visit the most important places like Downtown, Balboa Park, Old Town, the south and the north coast and the seaside resort of La Jole.
