Yosemite Nationalpark
Yosemite has been set aside as a National Park to preserve natural scenery unmatched anywhere. It has three major features, the High Sierra Wildlands, groves and Yosemite Valley – encompassing 1,189 square miles of the central Sierra Nevada. Elevations inside the Parks boundaries range from 2,000 feet in the western foothills to more than 13,000 feet on the eastern mountain crest. The Yosemite National Park is famous for its huge rocks, powerful waterfalls, beautiful blooming meadows and romantic lakes. The most interesting areas are the Tioga Pass, the Toulumne Meadows, the Yosemite Falls, „El Capitan Spires“, the North Dome and the Half Dome.
Yosemite Falls: The two falls and an intermediate cascade drop 2,425 feet, combining to make
this the tallest waterfall in North America
El Capitan:
El Capitan is a massive, granite monolith standing 3,593 feet from base to summit. El Capitan is largely
unracked, and so it has withstood all forms of erosion to become one of the largest exposed monoliths
in the world. From spring to fall, at the turnout along El Capitan Meadows, you can spot rock climbers
inching their way up its sheer face.
North Dome and Half Dome: Dominating the upper end of the valley is Half Dome, a rock formation that is both striking and unique.
Its summit is 4,748 feet above the valley floor and 8,842 feet above sea level.
The North Dome stands 3,571 above you. Note how shells of the Royal Arches seem to curve under
the North Dome, indicating that the two are related geologically.
